Tripoli in 2 days

If you are in Tripoli (either for work or pleasure), here are some suggestions:

  • Explore the narrow alleys of the Medina rich in history and culture;
  • Visit the Arch of Marcus Aurelius (just outside of the Medina);
  • Do not miss the Old British Consulate, the Old French Consulate and the House of Yusuf Karamanli.

If you’re interested in the Muslim aspect of the Medina, you must visit the Ahmed Pasha Karamanli Mosque (the largest mosque in the Medina), Draghut Mosque (named after notorious pirate and governor of Tripoli in the mid-16th century) and Gurgi Mosque (the tallest mosque in the Medina);

The Medina is also renowned for its diverse souks, with glittering displays of gold and silverware, colorful bridal shops, and everything from small perfumes to bed linen, copper to spices, all of which stretches away to the Ottoman clock tower in the distance. Tripoli is an mix of North Africa, Oriental Islam, imperial Mediterranean splendor, and a touch of Classical Rome.

…with an extra two days more, you can visit Sabratha, Janzour Museam and Leptis Magna…
